Chris LeDoux 在踏入乡村乐坛之前，就有着传奇般的生活经历。在美国西部牧场长大的 Chris LeDoux，从学生时代开始不断参加各种马术比赛，十五年的职业骑手生涯，使他逐渐成为马场上的佼佼者，并终于在 1976 年夺得了世界冠军。
当人们开始谈论这位赛场上的新星的同时，他们惊讶地发现，Chris LeDoux 早在 1972 年就开始发行自己的乡村歌曲专辑了。 Chris LeDoux 并没有沿袭传统的乡村风格，而是开放式地包含了摇滚等其他类型的音乐内容。他的歌曲坚持忠于自己的生活和感受：写美国西部，写自己的骑术生活，决不唱痛哭流泣的情歌。
1989 年，乡村巨星 Garth Brooks 在自己的歌曲“Much too young”中唱到“孤独的女人和酗酒的恶习，还有 Chris LeDoux 的听旧的磁带，是我仅有的伴侣”，当每个人都争相询问这个 Chris LeDoux 是谁的时候，Chris LeDoux 和父母在这二十年间已经在自家的车库里制作了 22 张乡村乐专辑，并且获得了 400,000 美元的销量。
